I booked my flights with a Mississauga/Toronto traveling agency called Gold Gold Travel back in November 2009 for my trip from Toronto, Canada to Bangkok, Thailand. One of my friends refers me the travel agency saying how cheap and affordable Gold Gold Travel offer.

Therefore, I called Gold Gold Travel and asked for the lowest package for my trip to Thailand. At the time I was on a budget, I wanted the cheapest ticket I can find, and I didn’t really care how long it takes as long as I get to Bangkok safely. The travel agent at Gold Gold Travel offered me the flight package with American Airline, American Eagles and Japan Airline. It was from Toronto, Canada to Chicago, US to Narita, Japan and then to Bangkok, Thailand. Then the reverse on my return flights.

All of this came at about $1200 CND including tax and everything. I think it was $1180 Canadian dollars in total. I brought the travel package; the next month I went on Toronto Person airport to catch my flight with American Eagle (same company as America Airline). The airplane was a small jet with about 80 seats. There were no entertainment, the food and drinks will need to be paid by credit card or cash. The flight lasted about 2 hours from Toronto to Chicago. I didn’t find anything wrong with the flight. The only thing that stood out was the security to the US was extremely tight even when I have a Canadian passport.

I waited about 3 hours in Chicago O’Hare International Airport to catch my second American Airline flight to Narita, Japan on a four engines Boeing airplane. The seat I sat on the Boeing was somewhat broken, when the plane was speeding up on the take off. The back support on my seat push backward because of the plane momentum going forward and my weight pushing back, I had to lean forward a few times to straighten my back support and the same problem when we were landing. It was not a huge deal, but I would like to have working seat. Then I thought to myself if my seat was like this, what about the rest of the airplane?

The cabinet of the American Airline Boeing aircraft was cool, luckily I was still wearing my winter jacket. Everyone was still wearing his or her jackets throughout the 13 hours trip from Chicago to Narita. We had a small pillow and a thin blanket, which was good enough. But I still find it a bit cold, I guess they wanted to save some fuel, which was fine by me I really don’t mind it. It was a little cooler than any other airlines I been with.

While we were descending in Narita Japan, it was daytime and it was raining with thick fog. I couldn’t see the land looking out the window and while we were descending about a few thousand feet in the air the plane fell straight down for 1 second. You know the feeling when you’re on a roller coaster going straight down and it felt like your guts were going up your head. It was that sort of feeling but on a big airplane thousands of feet in the air. I heard some women screaming at the back seats and I almost started to pray and I’m not religious at any mean. When it happened that high above and you have no clue what’s going on, the 1 second of feeling going straight down was very scary. I remember saying to myself no more American Airline. Even though it lasted one second, it was one second too long. I never felt unsafe like that on any other airline.

After we safely landed in Narita, Japan with American Airline, I don’t think I would ever want to go on a long flight with American Airline again. I would still fly American Eagles and American Airline on domestic flights within 5 hours duration. Any more than 5 hours, especially my trips to Asia will have to be by an Asia airlines like Cathy Pacific and Japan Airline. I went on Canada Airline before but I would rather spend on Cathy and Japan Air, they seem to have better entertainment and I like their aircrafts. After my experience with American Airline, I would not mind paying 1 or 2 hundred dollars extra for Cathy Pacific or Japan Airline to go to Asia.

After we landed in Narita, Japan, I waited another 3 hours in Narita, Japan to go on another Boeing aircraft on Japan Airline to Bangkok, Thailand and it was a present flight on Japan Airline.

The return trip went okay, there were no scary stories to tell. The only problem was my last flight from Chicago going back to Toronto was delay for about 6 hours because of a snowstorm. This was understandable. I didn’t mind the extra wait time because of bad weather. I rather be safe than taking off on a snow storm.
