I have been using Norton Anti Virus for about 2 years, and I frequently scan my hard drive for viruses and other spy wares. It did found many viruses in the past with Norton but I still find myself having to reformat my hard drive every 6 months or so. It was a pain, each time I reformat my hard drive I would have to reinstall all my software and it would take me all weekend to do. I rather do something else on my weekends…
When I first brought a brand new HP computer with Window Vista 64bit pre-installed. I didn’t want to install Norton Anti Virus because what I had to do in the past and one of my friend recommended me to use another anti virus and anti spy-ware program called avast. This friend of mine happened to work as a professional IT technician, so I figure he should know better than anyone else when it comes to personal and corporate internet security protections.
I google up and downloaded avast 60 days trail and install it to my new HP computer. Then after the 60 days trail I brought the software for 1 year. The great thing about avast is that it updates it self. You don’t need to do anything but install it for the first time and scan your hard drive from time to time.
Avast does not only block out viruses and spy wares, it also block out infected websites. I believe I got most of my files infected on my other computer with Norton install because Norton didn’t block out infected websites. You can actually get your files infected just by visiting an infected website and your browser automatically install the infected files like JavaScript, or any other files that are commonly use by your browsers. By the time I found out I got my files infected on my other computer, it was too late for me to do anything, but reformat.
It has been about 1 year since I got my new HP computer with avast install. I never have to reformat my hard drive since and everything is still running great like the first day I turn it on. I’m not sure if is because the new HP computer or the Window Vista 64bit or avast. But I know avast is a big reason keeping my computer clean.
