The brand name medical drugs are products just like any other products and because it is brand name, it tends to cost more money just as you would expect from any other brand name consumer products. Any trips to the doctor will most likely end up at the pharmacy afterward to pick up your medicines. For the past several years the cost of medications across the country has raise greatly which leave many Americans in financial trouble. However, the creation of many new generic drugs provides many Americans some relief. On top of that, the generic drugs claim to provide similar medical benefits as the brand name medical drugs.

For example, if you were to go out and buy a brand name chicken soup you would get more chicken than the non brand name chicken soup. However, the generic medical drugs and the brand name drugs have the same medical ingredients and they both are considered to be medically equal. Although the coloring, name and the shape of the generic drugs are different from the original brand name drugs because the brand name drugs are protected by a patent.

The questions is, who would want to go buy a more expensive brand name drugs?
Even with the lower cost of the generic drugs and the same medical ingredients. Many doctors still not approve their patients to take generic drugs. It may be that some of the ingredients in the generic medicines might not have enough or missing some important compound. It is possible that the maker of the generic drug had some problems and words spread in the medical community like wild fire.

If you find the brand name drugs to be too expensive, ask your doctor about generic or over the counter drugs to try it out.
