Just the other week I had to go to our RBC Royal Bank branch with my mom here in Newmarket, since she can’t speak English that well. We wanted to refinance our mortgage by taking out more money from our mortgage and with that money we will pay off all of our other debts. This will help us by not paying higher interest rates with the dept on our credit cards.
Anyways, when we got to the RBC bank to talk to one of the representative to refinance our mortgage, the lady there said they can’t do it and she never heard anything about refinancing a mortgage. She then took out her credit card forms and said if we need to borrow more money we should just sign up with another credit card.
I couldn’t believe it, so after a few minutes she tried to get us sign with another credit card, we stood up and started to walk to the door.
Just when we about to leave her office she suddenly said, “Oh! refinance mortgage!”. That was the reason for our visit, but she insisted us to use our credit cards or get more credit cards if we needed more money. Are you kidding me? Just because my mother doesn’t speak English and we are Asians, it doesn’t mean we’re idiots.
Anyways, we then proceeded to see if we were eligible for the refinance, then we fill out some forms and send off the forms to get them approve. That took about 2-3 weeks for that to get approved. Also, there was a $1500 fee for a lawyer, which was ridiculously expensive but we had no other choice but to pay the fee.
Anyways that was my story; from that day on I no longer trust these banking staffs and the bank. Oh yea, when we went back after everything was approved to sign some approval forms for our mortgage. The same lady asked me if I have a RRSP and I said no. She then tried to sell me her RRSP, what a joke.
I would never deal with the bank, if she tried to trick us to sign up for more credit cards with higher interests. Why would I want to get a RRSP with her or with the same bank?
This RBC Royal Bank branch is located at Yonge st and Dawson Manor Blvd in Newmarket. Try to stay away from a red haired lady that is crazy about Elvis. She’s evil.
We have now move to another branch, but sadly we are still with RBC
