Stop Dos Attack aka Denial-of-service attack

Recently one of my website got DOS. The web site stop responding, it would freeze, or the loading time would take minutes to load a single page.

At the time I was not with HostGator but with a hosting provider called JagourPC. I was on one of their VPS account paying over $30 USD per month. The first year with JagourPC everything went very smooth; my sites were getting more traffic each month. Everything was going great, but out of the blue one of my site started lagging.

At first, I thought it was something temporally, then 2 days pass and then a week pass. The site loading time was getting worst. I submitted many tickets for support and I was told by the support staff to upgrade for faster server performance. I eventually upgraded to the highest VPS JagourPC has to offer and yet the site was still freezing. I thank JagourPC for their quick support response but they didn’t solve my problem.

At the time, I didn’t know anything about DOS attack. I figure I needed a faster server than the ones JagourPC has to offer, so I decided to move to Hivelocity.net, thinking their servers are much faster with all of their technology they claim to have on their web site. Well, to make the story short. It didn’t work out but Hivelocity told me that I was getting a random DOSS attack somewhere in China. I told them to block everything from China, but it was still hitting my site.

I eventually moved to 2 more web hosting providers before settling down with HostGator.com. I think I spent about 2 weeks while working on my 9-5 job and coming home transferring my sites to different hosting providers. I thought I have lost the fight. I even thought about paying for a specialize hosting to stop the DOS attack but that would cost me over $100 dollars per month.

When I signup with HostGator, I didn’t know what to expect. The first 24 hours after I transfer my sites to HostGator everything went fine and then the site lock up again. I was thinking to myself, it is time to move to another host, but first I wanted to send a support ticket to HostGator support staff and see what they can do. Before I got a chance to send the support ticket, the site was back online better than ever.

So, I didn’t end up sending any support telling HostGator support about my past DOS attack. The site has been up and running fine ever since. I don’t think I will go somewhere else anytime soon. Also, the web hosting plan I sign up with HostGator is about $7-$8 dollars per month, compare that with JagourPC VPS at $30 and at Hivelocity at over $50 per month.

If you have problem with DOS attack, you got nothing to loss. Try HostGator. Please help me out by clicking on my link if you were to sign up with HostGator, I went through a lot of pain. Thanks!
