The other night I saw a TV ad claiming kijiji was the #1 or the most popular classified ad website in Canada. So I went to check them out to compare it to Craigslist and I saw some small differences.

The major difference when I first visit kijiji.ca (not kijiji.com) was the layout and the colors. On Craigslist you see the plain layout with the standard blue link texts and white background.

If you click on one of the section in Craigslist you’ll see the list of items or services being offered but no images. However, on kijiji you get a small thumbnail added by the ad poster.

The second difference I notice is – if you want to post an item or service on Craigslist. You simply go to the main category of what you’re trying to sell and at the top right corner click “post”. This will bring you to the form section where you select the category of the item or service you’re selling. The same thing on kijiji, just click on “Post Ad Free”. The only difference I notice is that kijiji offer the “URGENT” option. Where you have to pay $11.99 and your ad will be feature on top of each page of your category for 7 days.

Overall, both Craigslist and Kijiji are straightforward classified ad websites. There is no learning curve, if you brought stuff online before you should have no problem using both. Even if you’re inexperience with online selling or buying because the process is very simple.

Watch out for scams: Make sure you deal locally, do not send or wire money to anyone you don’t know because there are a lot of scams out there. Read this to inform yourself about Craigslist scams. Although it talks about Craigslist scams, the same scammers are using the same scams on other classified websites.

There are also many other websites like craigslist, see a list of sites like Cragislist here.

    You should add http://www.listburn.com

Listburn hopes to re-invent the way you search local classifieds and aims to make the item selling process quick, easy, and safer than other sites.

While other sites would have you wade through enormous ads, sponsored links, and other forms of "distractive" content, Listburn is a no-frills way to search and list. You won't find thousands of categories to get lost in or have to deal with other ad sites built on "blogging" platforms that are cumbersome and "artsy." Just simple classifieds. Period.

Go ahead, list something. You don't even need to register! Tell your friends. The more people that know about Listburn, the better the selection of items in your area.
Share Listburn with your friends, family, or post it on your Facebook Wall!
