I ended up signing a form from Active Energy without knowing that it was a contract. The person never said it was a contract, or how long the contract was for, or what the rate would be for electricity. As soon as I found out it was in fact a contract, I sent an email to them telling them to cancel it (I sent the email on the same day that I signed the form). Is an email enough to cancel the contract? And are there any other steps I can take to ensure I don’t get stuck with them?
How can I make sure they cancel my contract?

Also, try calling the company, get the cancellation number. Write that number down just in case. And if you really want to make sure you wont be switching your gas or electricity provider. Call your current provider, tell them to lock your account.
Then watch your gas and electricity bills for the next few months. Make sure you don't see Active Energy anywhere on your bills.
Is there any way to get out of a contract with Active Energy besides paying the absurd cancellation fee they tell you that you have to pay? I didn't realize until a few months into this contract that I was actually on a contract and that I was being charged .35/m3 when my gas company I was with before them only charges .14/m3, now when I called to cancel I was told I had to pay more than $1100 to cancel… has anyone found a way out of this scam without paying? Please I need help!
Yes you can, if there was deceptive or false information at the point of sale.
